Highland Park

Incorporated in 1913 as its own town, Highland Park is located approximately three miles north of downtown Dallas and is surrounded by the City of Dallas. The Town was named "Highland Park" because of its higher elevation compared to the surrounding area and because 20 percent of developed land was reserved for park space. Its beautiful parks running along Turtle Creek and Hackberry Creek and its historic homes and mansions continue to define Highland Park. Both the City of Highland Park and Beverly Hills in California were laid out by city planner Wilbur David Clark. Highland Park’s Beverly Drive is reminiscent of its better known California cousin, with majestic, sprawling residences, many with hints of Spanish heritage. Highland Park Village is a unique Mediterranean Spanish-style development, that according to the Urban Land Institute, was the first planned shopping center in the United States with a unified architectural style and stores facing in toward an interior parking area, all built and managed under a single ownership. Highland Park is also home to the prestigious Dallas Country Club.


Resident families enjoy the benefit of the Highland Park ISD; its high school is a public four-year college preparatory school recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as a School of Excellence and winner of blue ribbon designation. The HP Highlanders have a long tradition of both academic and athletic superiority. Residents find life within Highland Park to be like living in a small village with close connections to neighbors and quiet residential streets, and yet literally everything is right around the corner. Shopping and restaurants in Dallas are world class. The Town is two miles from Love Field Airport and approximately 30 minutes away from DFW International Airport.

The Town of Highland Park has its own swimming pool and tennis courts for residents. A true treasure in Highland Park is the grand old pecan tree on Armstrong Parkway at Preston Road. This mammoth tree is approximately 75 feet wide by 75 feet tall and is over 140 years old. One of the oldest Christmas Traditions in Dallas County is the annual lighting of The Big Pecan Tree.
